‘Public! – workshopfacilitatedby Rhona Byrne in collaboration with Quarter Block Party
Quarter Block Party in partnership with the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design are delighted to present this which explores the potential of cross-disciplinary working in a public environment.This 3-day workshop explores the area of North and South Main Street looking at public art and the potential and possibilities that present themselves through cross-disciplinary approach and collaboration. The workshop will invite peer-learning through exploring the different possible approaches to public space and the specific spatial, socio-economic and historic landscape of the area through a thorough look at what public art might mean in this context. Over three days the participants will collaborate under the mentorship of artist Rhona Byrne through practical workshops, walks, discussions and exploration of artistic possibilities and responses resulting in a final event on Sunday as part of the Quarter Block Party festival.
Quarter Block Party fans from the last two years will know the weekend as a daring and exhilarating weekend filled with a selection the freshest in high calibre artists in music and art. The grass roots and DIY vibe to the festival, which made it such a unique experience for Cork, remains with top class music acts and an innovative theatre programme, across a range of unique venues including St. Peter’s Church, Triskel Arts Centre and Spailpín Fánach alongside a range of pop-up & public art events in the shops & spaces along North & South Main Streets over the course of the weekend.
Students and recent graduates in the fields of architecture, public art, urbanism, planning and socially engaged practice and who would like to examine the possibilities of cross-disciplinary collaboration in the context of public art are welcome to take part.
Fees for this 3 day workshop are €50 which includes lunch
